Our vision to create healthy textiles began just over 5 years ago, when Michel's mom suffered from painfully irritated skin while undergoing cancer treatments. Her skin was reacting to the synthetic chemicals in her bedsheets, but finding synthetic- and bleach-free sheets proved pretty impossible. So we set out to make our own, with the hopes they would help others around the world. Over the past 5 years, AIZOME has been supported by a growing community of people around the world searching for an alternative to the chemically-laden textiles the industry has normalized. Our hope is to transform the way the textile industry dyes fabrics, and our strongest allies in this movement have been our affiliates: discerning, intelligent, compassionate, and courageous individuals who, like us, believe that better is possible.
How much does a $20 bed sheet actually cost? Synthetic chemical dyes and plastic-derived materials decrease overall costs for companies, but they also sacrifice the health of the people who use or make textiles from them, as well as the planet. As the amount of man-made chemicals and plastics in fabrics has increased, there has also been an observed increase in skin irritation, in textile workers developing cancer, and in environmental destruction:
We believe there is a better way. With the help of scientists, dermatologists, and textile engineers, we found a way to harmonize traditional Japanese dyeing techniques with an innovative technology to dye organic cotton with plants (like indigo) without the use of synthetic chemicals. This means AIZOME is only made from plants, making it 100% hypoallergenic and 100% biodegradable. Good for people and the planet!
We offer a full line of North American-sized bed sheets. However, our flexible drawstring bottom sheet can fit multiple sizes of mattress beyond North America - we can work with you on what products fit your market!
Our bed sheets are available in a creamy natural white, light blue indigo, dark blue indigo, light grey and light pink to easily fit in to the most chic bedroom.
